As this year moves into the next, NOW is a great time to look at both where we have been and where we are going. Pause for a few moments and reflect on all that went WELL last year.
Before setting New Year’s goals, take time to jot down your accomplishments and “AHA” moments. Acknowledge your progress, lessons learned and things that you are grateful for. Then move to these short-and-sweet questions that will to help you create your results for 2017.
Copy the questions into a document and work on them during the next week. Block time with yourself on the calendar to think about the questions and write your answers. Notice if you want to stop after answering 4 or 5. Keep going! To stop before the finish line usually ensures that this year will be a repeat of last. Magic happens when you are willing to wait for the not-so-obvious or easy answers.
- What are the 3 qualities that you are most proud of? Your greatest strengths? (this is the time to be boastful)
- What are the 3 qualities you DON’T consider your strongest? (this is time to be compassionate)
- What things worked in 2016 that you will keep in your plans for 2017?
- What things didn’t work in 2016 that you will do differently for 2017?
- What are your 3 most important professional/business goals right now?
- What are your 3 most important personal goals right now?
- What are your 1-2 biggest areas for growth? (formerly considered obstacles)
- If you could wave a magic wand and change anything in your life over the next 12 months, what would you change? Let your imagination run free! This is your chance to give yourself the gift of possibility. For those who have worked with me, question #8 is a version of “what would I love?”
“What would I love?” is the question that will absolutely change the course of your life. Click To Tweet
When was the last time you asked this question and waited for your wholehearted answer? You’re not asking what you think you can have. Or what others think you should want. You’re not asking your calendar or bank account what is possible. Allow yourself to indulge in the question – what would I love? This is the place where you can hear your soul speak. Only you need to hear the answer.
Acknowledging your strengths and making time to look at what worked and didn’t work over the past 12 months will help you to make the adjustments you need for your Success-Leap in 2017.
How will you adjust your thinking as well as your strategies and tactics so that you grow personally and professionally in 2017?
